MudLab (Zero Waste Cafe)
In the height of 2020 Covid quarantine, I chose to donate my time to a black female owned business in one of the areas of Oakland that was suffering from riot vandalism. I admired the efforts of this business and its commitment to activism through the form of community cleanup and environmental consciousness and wanted to pay my time and values forward to create signage for their business. Through the duration of painting this mural, I navigated not only the restrictions of covid health precautions but also the dangerous air quality due to wildfires as well as storefront looting and vandalism in response to George Floyd’s murder. Overall, it was a trying time but one that I felt a purposeful contribution to.
