Shown in the 2018 Exhibition "Illustrating Resistance", a Biennial Faculty & Alumni Show at California College of the Arts.
This piece was provoked by my own feelings of helplessness through recent global political happenings. While trying to navigate it alone, I felt anxious and void of hope. But the idea of coming together with others and recognizing so many different struggles helped me feel more capable of impact by way of compassion. The two figures embracing are personifications of different communities or groups with their lower bodies holding scenes of riots, protests, civil outbreak, and family members embracing in fear. While feeling the weight of all of this, we can still remember to respect our fellow human beings and that power lies in unity.
